This article in the National Post by Dr. John G. Stackhouse, Professor of Theology and Culture at Regent College in Vancouver, may well be the only sensible thing that has been written on Prime Minister Steven Harper’s recent communion “controversy”.
Amen.
There’s nothing quite so frustrating as hearing people get riled up about things which they very plainly do not understand … and getting ruffled for all the wrong reasons!
Was there a controversy here? Yes but one that affects only Christians who understand the sacred gift of the Holy Sacrament, and the public confession of a unity of faith that receiving it gives.
… but then again, it might be unfair for us to ask the media to rightly understand something that many of the people in the pews just don’t get either!
